Black River Canoeing

Paddle six miles down this slow-moving river south of Olympia and learn about the Natural History of this outstanding natural area owned in part by Nature Conservancy and the State of Washington. A wide variety of birds and trees can be seen from the river, which resembles bayou country in the southern U.S.

  • Timing: 7am-5pm in the spring
  • Location: Meet at Black River Canoe Trips just south of Littlerock Washington.
  • Age/Audience: 12-years-old and up - must be able to paddle a canoe for several hours

Canoe Go Birding

You will be guided on a two-mile flat water canoe paddle loop through the Arboretum, around Foster Island and into part of Lake Washington. Along the way, you will see beaver dams, muskrat, turtles, and up to 30 species of birds – many up close and personal. You will be amazed by all of the wildlife you can see in the midst of our city!

  • Timing: Two hours in the spring, summer and in the fall a.m.
  • Location: Meet at the canoe rental behind Husky stadium at the UW
  • Age/Audience: 12-years-old and up
